Multi-function extrusions can minimize the number of part numbers required to satisfy application requirements.  If you would like to explore the possibilities of combining several part numbers in one multi-function profile contact us.

The following are examples of how multi-function extrusions can be used to minimize part number requirements:

  • Hinges: Co-extrusion of rigid and flexible materials enables creation of a hinge to effect a profile design that can be opened and closed.
  • Seals: Moisture, air, dust and light infiltration can be minimized with the co-extrusion of flexible fins that conform to the surface against which they are intended to create a seal. Tri-extrusion, another form of co-extrusion, can be employed to impart both sealing and hinging characteristics in one profile. It is most cost and performance effective to co-extrude raw materials that have good chemical compatibility.
  • Bumpers: Coextrusion of flexible material can also provide a cushion to protect adjacent surfaces from scratches.
  • Embedding a metal strip in a plastic profile extrusion can be used to derive the higher strength properties of metal or take advantange of metal's conductive properties while insulating the metal component.
  • Various end and plan fabrication details can be used to create multiple sku's from one profile.
  • Post form extrusion can be employed on appearance critical profiles to incorporate attachment mechanisms without compromising appearance attributes of a profile.
