Crane Plastics offers several options for profile fabrication during the extrusion process or post extrusion process. Part fabrication during the extrusion process, or in line fabrication, is usually the most cost effective method of producing cost effective, ready to use finished good parts. For fabrication operations that cannot be achieved during the extrusion process, Crane offers a fully staffed secondary fabrication department, also called out of line fabrication. Tolerance requirements generally dictate whether a profile can be fabricated in line or out of line, however other factors such as profile design and extrusion process parameters also play a part in determining the most cost effective way to fabricate a profile. If you would like to discuss your specific profile extrusion fabrication needs contact us.

Custom profiles can be fabricated in a number of operations to produce finished good parts.  These operations include:
  • Cut to length-In line length tolerances are generally + -.060". Out of line length tolerances can be held as tight as +-.020".
  • Hole punching, notching, compound angle cutting-These operations generally require pneumatic punch presses or rotary driven tools.
  • Dimpling, heat forming-In line heat forming is dependent on extrusion run rate and wall thickness of .060" or less are recommended.
  • More elaborate heat forming operations are feasible in stationary, out of line fabrication processes.
  • Tape application, Film lamination-Pressure sensitive adhesive, foam and decorative film applications are generally conducive to in line fabrication.

Other custom fabrication options are available.  If your profile extrusion application has a unique set of fabrication requirements contact us.  Our team of engineers will develop a cost effective method to satisfy the most challenging fabrication needs.
